A report of EU policy & funding for Photonics recently appeared as a feature article in Laser Focus World (June 2006, see portfolio). This article discussed background, funding levels and policies applicable to various sectors of photonics research & technology development (RTD). Importantly, the application, funding and project management procedures have been streamlined considerably in FP7 compared to FP5 & FP6.
The article also discussed sources of information, how to seek funding from the EU, who is eligible, where to look for partners, the application process and which thematic areas are relevant. In essence, any research or manufacturing organisation anywhere in the world is eligible for funding provided certain conditions are met - meeting these criteria is perhaps easier than at first imagined.
